I work with many women who have experienced abusive relationships. Do you know what they all have in common? They are phenomenal, vibrant, intelligent, capabale, fierce women. Women who have successful careers, are incredible parents, and so deeply loving.

To deconstruct the shame that often comes with healing from an abusive relationship, we must uncover the timeline of experiences that got us there. We can often trace some kind of pattern back to childhood: the time when we're most vulnerable and need someone to teach us how to be properly loved, nurtured and respected.

Others happened to be "found" by the abuser during a particularly challenging time of life. A time where they needed support, companionship or nurture.

As we explore and uncover personal truths, we can let go.

Spirituality has long been used as a tool for corruption, but it's also a tool that helps many make meaning, especially during times of strife.

I consider myself to be a "spiritual explorer" - yes, this is a real term lol - and draw inspiration and empowerment from many schools of spiritual thought. I form my own mosaic of faith that helps me make sense of the world.

The concept of shalom (a Hebrew term) signifies a state where all parts of life are in harmony; physical, emotional, spiritual, and communal well-being. I resonate so deeply with shalom because there is a part of me that will always fight for this...not just for me, but for all of us.

To laugh in the face of evil is to stand strong in your convictions. It is to say "you can't take my goodness away from me". And I hope to share what goodness I can with anyone I can. That's how I make meaning. 🌿

Where did you learn that other people were your competitors rather than collaborators? From a psychoanalytic perspective, probably not pretty early in life from someone very important to you.

When someone teaches us that we have to fight to be seen, validated or heard (especially in our formative years), those patterns tend to continue subconsciously until we intervene.

I call this the "wound of not being chosen".
